A Canadian resident has been asked by her church to keep her criticism of city officials to herself, or worship somewhere else. Deborah Boschman wrote a letter to the Brandon Sun newspaper recently, entitled “City Needs New Ideas.”
In the letter, she was critical of Mayor Dave Burgess and city councillors for not doing more to draw new residents and visitors to the city. She suggested Brandon build a waterslide or family theme park to draw in visitors.
But on Aug. 15, nearly a week after her letter was published, Boschman received a letter from her Pentecostal church, the Bethel Christian Assembly. Read the story here.
I hope there is more to this story. There probably is just like the woman who was dismissed from teaching in NY . If she did something to harm the church or did something un-biblical then I can understand. But nothing would surprise me. What do you think?

Any person with that much “control”–or should I say that many “control issues” will largely ignore the requests for ethics, integrity, and honest accounting.
I know this from first-hand experience. I’m still recovering from a situation where the “pastor” was very, very controlling. Of course he would never admit it.
And still doesn’t.

Thanks for sharing. I figured there was more to this story. A hockey horn? Wow! That is not worshipful at all. Blessings to you and your church!
You don’t say how old this lady is. Maybe she’s going through difficult menopausal symptoms. Maybe she has early dementia. Maybe she’s the victim of some form of abuse that manifests in her not being able to distinguish “boundaries” in human behaviour and interaction. Blowing a hockey horn during a religious service sounds so bizarre that I think perhaps she may need medical attention, rather than being ostracised. People who call themselves Christians should try to behave as they are supposed to, i.e to be non-judgemental, kind and compassionate.
I recieved a very respectful and balanced email from Pastor Mike Davis concerning this incident, while he can not speak to the issues involved, he assured me that this was not a single incident. I have talked to a lot of bogus ministers over the years and he certianly did not seem to be one of those types.
These matters are rarely simple and as St. Augustine said:
“Melius est dubitare de occultis quam litigare de incerti”,
that is better to be in doubt of those things which are secret, than to strive about those things that are uncertain
A little off subject, but does involve horns… I was watching Rod Parsley in 2000, & he was doing his Year of Jubilee. They had party horns, hats & confetti and did a congo line around the church while the worship band played “Jump” by Van Halen. Look, I’m all being culturally relevant, but party horns? It was totally funny. My first thought was, I wonder what seeker who happened to see this thinks!
But because of that, my new favorite psalmist is Davis Lee Roth! Who needs Fanny Crosby?
I’m sorry it happened, but I can’t help but laugh at the fog horn. Of course I wouldn’t if it happened in my Church.
You need to google my name, Deborah Boschman and go to Church Discipline. This pretty much tells you what went on here. This is about a Pastor and a Mayor who are FRIENDS. This is about an unscrupulous church member who also happens to be FRIENDS with this Pastor. This is about a Pastor who wants to CONTROL his sheep because he wants to fit into the culture of the city. This is about church members who have lied to their Pastor, born false witness and testimony, you name it. This is about the “wolves” in the church, idle and gossiping women, church politics, etc.
I knew absolutely NOTHING of any other complaints at all. This is about gossiping women from church who have caused trouble in the past and who want to control a congregation and their Pastor, with their lies, false witness and gossip.
I came to church to worship my God. David REALLY WORSHIPPED God! The Bible says, “Thy Will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.”
I am a little bit eccentric, I guess, but my sole purpose was to worship my God. We are GOING to worship Him in Heaven. Why can’t we worship Him here on earth? I mean REALLY worship Him?
We can go to a hockey game, a baseball or basketball game, etc. and yell our fool heads off. What’s wrong with blowing a horn in church? I didn’t have a shofar and so I blew the next best thing, to worship my God.
Pastor Mike called me laughing and he said that the music dept. didn’t think that this was a musical instrument and so I didn’t bring it again. End of story. There was no fuss, nothing. That was it.
This church TOTALLY SUPPORTS this Mayor and they belong to the SAME POLITICAL PARTY as this Mayor and some of us would like to see this Mayor replaced.
This church had this political party’s stuff on their website until all this happened with me.
Another Mayoral candidate took this letter to The Brandon Sun, that I had received from this Pastor. I did NOT take this letter to the paper but I got blamed for this anyway.
This is about power, control, politics. This is about man’s will versus God’s will over our city of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada and this is also about an “old boys’ club” that has ruled over this city forever.
This is about Pentecostal men trying to control strong women that they do not understand, etc.
No one EVER came to speak to me about ANY OTHER issue whatsoever. There was this one incident with a hockey horn and anything else that they say there was, I am NOT aware of, at all.
This church didn’t differ too much from what is going on in the world. There are MANY real solid Christians here and I loved them deeply but there are also some other individuals there who are making the rest of these true believers look bad; they are the wolves there.
I didn’t know that this site existed and so, even though this is years later, I will respond to this, to try to set the record straight.
A woman from this church was also telling people who called into this church, untruths about me, when they phoned in to complain.
There is ALOT more to this story than meets the eye.

I have been through HELL in this city just because I spoke up against this STRANGLEHOLD and STRONGHOLD that these men in power and business have over this city and how they PREVENT things that could really benefit our city from getting into our city. If these things don’t benefit them personally, then we don’t get them. It’s all about THEM, the boys in power and control over our city.
