I wrote a post about President’s Clinton and Carter trying improve the image of Baptists. Read about it here. This post made me realize that there are major differnces among Baptists and Christians.
I remember Rodney King’s plea in Los Angeles years ago, “why can’t we all get along?” Why is it that Baptists can’t get along with each other? For that matter why is it Christians can’t get along with one another?
When does standing on Biblical Truth override comprimise and love? Can those of us who are pro-life and pro-family values work side by side with those Christians who disagree with us?
I truly believe my views on social issues are Biblical. But so do some fine people who disagree with me. Can we get along? I know I struggle with judgmental and self-righteous attitudes. I really want to understand where “moderate” and even “liberal” Christians are coming from. I like Tony Campolo but don’t get some of his views. That doesn’t mean I can’t learn from him.
I am asking some of you who consider yourselves “moderate” or “liberal” Christians to help me understand how you come by your Biblical views. I want to understand how you can support abortion, homosexual rights, condom distrubution, pre-maritial sex, etc… and other views that many of us conservative Christians have a hard time understanding. Why is it hard for you to believe the Bible is inerrant? If it is not inerrant than how can you trust it?
I will not judge. I am really trying to understand. I am trying to learn. I am a BLACK and WHITE person, so this will really help me understand others. I don’t want name calling by anyone. Please only give your views without trashing another persons character or beliefs.
Thanks in advance.
