Open Letter to 7-Up

I was addicted to Diet Mt. Dew up until 2003 when my beautiful wife Cassandra begged me to stop drinking it. Why because of aspertame. I was having short term memory loss, really. So I went Cold turkey off of aspertame. My memory came back and my headaches went away.

She was drinking Diet-Rite but it just didn’t do anything for me. So along came Diet 7-Up with Splenda! I have a special way I drink it. I add 4 parts Diet 7-Up and 1 part Orange Juice. It is good try it.

However, after 3 years of producing Diet 7-Up with Splenda they have gone back to Aspertame! Uggh! What am I going to do?

I am begging 7-Up to keep making Diet 7-Up with Splenda. Or better yet, Diet Mt. Dew why don’t you start making your beverage with Splenda!

Oh, the horror.

  1. I bet Juan Valdez is celebrating even as we speak.

  2. Off topic, but Kevin have you considered adding a Comments RSS Feed?

  3. Rob,

No, but if someone will tell me how I will. I plan to start pod-casting my messages this week but can’t get the player to work. I guess I’ll have to call Micah Monday.

  4. I’ve had trouble with aspartame, too. It’s nasty stuff!

A few years ago I stopped eating sugar, so I started drinking a lot of diet pop and eating various sugar free foods. I started having joint pains and headaches, and went to several doctors about it, but no one knew what it was.

After I heard about aspartame, though, and eliminated it entirely from my diet I got better and haven’t had any trouble since.

I wish they’d continue to sweeten Diet 7-Up with Splenda. It’s always been my favorite pop. And Diet Mt. Dew would be nice to have sweetened with Splenda, too.

  5. Isn’t there a Sprite product that still has Splenda? I’m not sure if it’s Sprite Zero, but someone was discussing it in the grocery store last week.

  6. Texas,

    Not here in NC, yet.

  7. Kevin, I’m getting very concerned about your drinking habits. First, you tell us how you love Star(yerrgh)bucks, and now you’re slavering over this gunk. Have you ever considered doing a chemistry course to learn what you’re actually imbibing????

On that note, I must say that for all your aversion to alcohol, you’d be better off with the odd ale or two than guzzling this vileness. I’m serious.

  8. Kevin,
I had the same thing happen to a friend of mine. She had headaches, numbness in her hands and feet, and other symptoms that couldn’t be explained. She was also an avid Mountain Dew fan. A friend advised her to look up the side effects of aspartame on line. When she saw the LOOOOONNNNG list, she went cold turkey. Her symptoms soon disappeared.
That must be some bad stuff.

  9. There’s a really neat beverage you should try.

It’s been around a long time and has been proven to be safe in most parts of the world.

The first bottlers of it thought we might be naive enough to buy it so turned the word around backwards for their name -Evian. Sure ’nuff, we bought it. Still are.

Ever heard of water? ;-) It’s great stuff! Not many side-effects, and most doctors recommend it.

You should check it out! :-D

    Laterz…

  10. Hi Kevin,

The doctor who has the attached site often warns about artifcial sweeteners. The page also shows an article about Splenda, Nutrasweet, etc. that I thought might interest you.

  11. Phil’s correct, Kevin, up to a certain point, i.e., you don’t need to obtain dihydrogen monoxide in its bottled form. Even though dihydrogen monoxide has been used in nuclear plants, is known to cause death by accidental inhalation and to rust metal, ( as well as being found in (gag!) Starbuck’s awful brew, it’s still a wonderful beverage if taken in moderation. You should try it! Although its
E coli levels may sometimes be a bit dangerous, its still better than the muck which gave you all those horrid symptoms.

  12. It is obvious that this additive is dangerous to the general public. I will looking to you at San Antonio to bring the resolution against it. :)

  13. I was shocked and dismayed when I went to buy my diet 7up and saw aspertame back in it. I lost my memory when I was on that stuff. It is horrible until I figured out it was aspertame that was causing it. I want to have a decent tasting soda without hundreds of calories or memory loss is that so much to ask for!

  14. Why did they change back?

  15. I, too, am sad that diet 7Up has gone back to aspartame. The Splenda is what set it apart from the pack! What were they thinking?

  16. I don’t trust any of those artificial sweeteners. I think there is more to this than we know. That business about short-term memory loss with aspartame is scary stuff. I have similar feelings about the prolonged use of non-stick cookware, but that’s a different story.

  17. [...] January I wrote an open letter to 7-up requesting the put Splenda back into their Diet 7-up. Unfortunately they sent me back a response [...]

  18. Very nice information. I was wondering about this, and your post explained what I needed to know. Thanks for this.
