Book Review–Chazown

I just finished reading Chazown by Craig Groeschel. He is the Lead Pastor of LifeChurch.tv.

This was a great book. It is about “a different way to see your life.” Chazown is a Hebrew word for “vision.”

The book itself is well laid out. It is like nothing I’ve ever seen. What I like about Groeschel and his church is they are Kingdom minded. You can download free videos from their website. For this book he offers a free download of the workbook. Many authors require you to buy the workbook.

Groeschel encourages us to determine 3 areas of our lives. 1

  1. our core values
  2. spiritual gifts
  3. past experiences

He then desribes how you take those and form 3 circles and find your Chazown or the purpose in your life.

He describes our Chazown area as a 5 spoke object. They are:

  1. Your relationship with God
  2. Your relationship with people
  3. Your financial health
  4. Your physical health
  5. Your life’s work.

This book was not like your typical “God’s Will” or purpose in life book. I really learned a lot. In fact, it was convicting. I thought so much of it that our staff decided we are going to do an entire series on finding your Chazown later this Spring. Thanks to Catalyst for sending this book to me. I really learned a great deal from this book. I give Chazown 4.5 hockey sticks out of 5.

  1. Kevin,

I have yet to see you review a book you didn’t like!

What was the last book that earned 2 sticks or less?

  2. If a book is a 2 I’ll never finish it. :)

  3. Kevin,

Got to see Craig at the Creative Church Conference at Fellowship Church. I am looking forward to reading this book in the near future. He is a very engaging speaker and shared an awesome message at the conference that wacked me up side my head.

  4. Chris,

That’s cool. Chad from Catalyst just told me Craig will be one of the speakers this year. I can’t wait.
