[NY POST]
A CUNY fraternity was up a Greek creek yesterday after a federal court found it guilty of gender discrimination – saying that if its members didn’t mind watching strippers, they shouldn’t object to female “brothers.” The College of Staten Island had the right to refuse Chi Iota Colony because it does not welcome women as members, the 2nd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled.
The ruling will not necessarily set a precedent and change Greek life at other colleges. It means a college can deny recognition to single-sex frats – but is not forced to, according to a lawyer involved in the case.
Read about it here.
[From me]
I was in a fraternity in college. We had mixers with other sororities but I wouldn’t have wanted a female “brother.” That is stupid. I have formed life-long friendships with some of my frat brothers and it wouldn’t have been the same in our Frat house with “Sisters.”
What do you think?

Kevin -
It is a sad day when questions such as this are even being asked. Paul told young Timothy that God had given us a “spirit of power and common sense.” Social conundrums such as these are indicative of a Christless society absent both.
Asking questions like this is kind of like asking children if they want adults involved in their “secret club.” They don’t really mind as long as there’s something in it for them; when they find out their presence brings unwanted constraints they want them removed post haste.
At one time institutions (good or bad) were valuable social and cultural entities within Western society; the continuing assault upon them pushes our civilization closer to a point of no return. Going back to the way it was in a child’s club is an open option, within a societal construct it is virtually impossible.
Satan understands he can more easily attack the Church if he tears apart the fabric of its temporal context. There are no winners when a culture is forced to confront vacuous questions such as the one you pose; especially within the Christian culture.
Thus it is imperative to remember that our kingdom is not of this world (sing alleluias and amens at this point).
Uhm… isn’t watching strippers a bigger problem than having to share your fraternity with women?
I have noticed that lots of younger people have mixed gender room mate situations these days. Why just last night I went to movie night with some single guys only to discover as I was leaving that one of the room mates (who was not there) was female.
Now before you blast the Episcopal Church for lack of “traditional values”, this movie night was at a local Southern Baptist Church’s mens group (which I normally would not mention, but felt I should in ecclesiastical self defense
)
This 50 yr old Friar never had a female room mate outside of my marriage, but sex does not seem to be part of it.
I’m just wondering if the logical extension of this isn’t that sororities should be required to accept male members.
