Regular swearing at work can help boost team spirit among staff, allowing them to express better their feelings as well as develop social relationships, according to a study by researchers.

[From me]
Give me a break! All swearing does is show how limited one’s vocabulary is. I’m not being a prude but this is stupid. I don’t feel better when I hear cussing–I feel like I need a shower.
What do you think?

I think that the morality boost may come from trust building. Since swearing is considered taboo and since it can get one in hot water with the personnel department, swearing in front of coworkers is a sign that you trust them not to turn you in for being genuine; it’s a sign that you trust them with your true feelings. If swearing were common place, I don’t think it would have the same effect.
Well spotted, AAA. I suspect swearing itself isn’t what is important, it is the ability to speak naturally in whatever manner you normally do when you’re not monitoring yourself. Swearing is just a good metric for measuring that in the general population.
Dad always said when people run out of thoughts to express, they swear. I’ve found that’s pretty much true.
I agree with AAA. Alot of people don’t feel comfortable sharing their true thoughts with others at work. And a lot of work places don’t try to create an atmosphere of openess among they’re employees. So I think cussing helps create this. What about “Christian Cussing”? Like… dang it, shoot, crap…. different words…same meaning and motivation.
I work in the oilfield, so you can imagine the words and phrases I’ve heard out here. It’s not only commonplace, it’s expected.
Unfortunately, it really just makes people sound ignorant (well, to be honest, most of them don’t just sound ignorant). I tend to feel more ignorant by association when the cuss words are flying, and I don’t like to feel ignorant, so that doesn’t help my morale.
My daughter and I had a good laugh over this today.
I thought the angle of women are perceived as bad for cussing and men aren’t is funny.
what the #@!*!!!
