Now the police have gone to pot!

4 12 2007

Check out this video. (Sorry CNN is not supported on wordpress)
This has to be one of the most idiotic laws I’ve ever seen. Now the Police have to cultivate seized pot because it might be “medical.” Something is wrong here. I see way too many people taking advantage of this.

Watch the guy who says he would be glad to help the police grow the pot. Unbelievable!

‘God’ gets arrested?

18 06 2007

[From NWI.com]

A man claiming to be God wanted his slippers — right now. Instead, he was arrested at a  Payless Shoes store. The man moved closer to the employees and told them he was God.

“He said ‘When God speaks to you you’re supposed to give him everything,’”

Read about it here.

[From me]

I didn’t know God wore slippers.  I thought He was sandals being. :)

‘JESUS’ CRACKS COLD CASE

9 06 2007

[From NY Post]

An Arizona man shocked cops in the East Village this week by walking into the local precinct and announcing that he’d strangled a woman on East 13th Street during an argument in 2004 – and that Jesus Christ wanted him to turn himself in.

“We wish Jesus would solve more of these,” one law enforcement source said.

Read about it here.

[From me]

I Actually believe the man really had Jesus tell him through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Those who haven’t experienced his power don’t really understand that.  I hope Jesus solves some more cases too!

Scary stuff

11 05 2007

Tonight I was at a wedding rehearsal so I didn’t have my Treo on me.  My beautiful wife Cassandra was suppose to meet me @ 7:00PM for the rehearsal dinner.  I was told by my son that Cass was trying to get me on the phone so I went to my office to grab my Treo.  When I called Cass told me that she had just been attacked at the Wal-Mart by our home.   She went in to get a few things and was walking around the back of the Chrysler Town & Country when a man grabbed her leg and told her to give him the keys!

Cassandra is a very observant person and had just seen a police officer pull in the parking lot and was maybe 6 cars away.  So she kicked the perpetrator in the face and yelled for help.  Charlotte’s finest was there immediately and put Cass in his car and chased the thief down and caught him.  Wow!

This is the 2nd time this has happened to Cass.  In 1992 we were living in Ft. Worth, TX while I was in seminary.  Cass was coming home to our apartment on the East side of Ft. Worth by I-30 & I-820.  I normally wasn’t home on Monday nights because of a class but this night I was home sooner than normal.  Cassandra pulled into our gated apartment community and 2 gang members were waiting for her and attacked her and drove off in our car.

I just praise God that he protected Cassandra back then and tonight.  I also thank God for our police officers who don’t get enough praise for protecting our community.

Complex Issue

17 04 2007

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t have all or for that matter many answers to the issue of sexual predators in churches.  I do think that our children are too important to just say that every church must fend for themselves.   We must work together.

But what about those who may be falsely accused?  That issue has been raised and I realize it is a very touchy subject.  I can’t imagine how difficult it must be on a person and their family to be accused of something they didn’t do.

I received an e-mail from someone I don’t know and lives nowhere near me.   They wanted to tell their story but they don’t want to be dragged though the mud and especially their family.  I have received several e-mails this week from people who have been abused and now one who was accused wrongly.   All of the stories break my heart.

The person who was wrongly accused gave me permission to share their story to give another point of view.  I left out parts and reworded it to protect them.  Here it is:

This person has been investigated numerous times for Child abuse.  Each Report has been thoroughly investigated, and it was concluded in every case they were false reports.   Over a period of time his home was searched and his family have been to see DHS, and the police.  The police know him and his family and realize they are being  victimized.  The law says someone can be arrested for repeatedly making a false report but the false reports change a little each time which keeps them from being arrested.

I can’t reveal who set him up but there are other issues he shared which can not be posted here to protect him and his family.  Lets just say it is painful.  There are many other complex issues that have arisen.  It has caused a strain on his family and his wife.  Read what he said:.

“I understand your furor over these creeps who have legitimately done wrong and admitted to it, or it was proven…..but this could get huge and horrible.  Someone needs to remember Americans are innocent until proven guilty…. “

As I read his e-mail I realized this is more complex than just lists and such.  I’ve never claimed to be an expert.  But I do hurt for those who have been abused as well as those who have been falsely accused.   I don’t know what the answer is but I have a lot of questions.

Good Friday?

6 04 2007

Here are some pictures of the funeral of one of the fallen Charlotte Police Officers. Gene our music minister and I walked about a mile down from our church to the cemetery. I don’t know if I have ever seen so many police cars. There were police cars from all over North and South Carolina and all over the country. We saw cars from Florida, Arkansas and the Highway Patrol from New York!

We talked to several police officers and expressed our gratitude for their service. There were so many cars that they some had to park outside the cemetery and walk in. One police woman thanked us for coming. We thanked her for her service to us. The mayor thanked us for coming too. One of our church members said that we were on the 6 o’clock news.

Following the funeral procession I went to see a wonderful lady who very ill. It was sad to see her so ill and the pain in the eyes of her adult children.

Then we had a Maundy Thursday Service at our church. It was very moving. It was depressing on purpose. We tried to make the mood as somber as possible. It was eerie seeing Jesus on the cross following communion. We left the service in dark and silence.

Today is “Good Friday.” I realize it is good for us but how good was it for Jesus to die on a cross to pay for the sins of the world. I don’t pretend to understand why people hurt and die. I don’t understand why people suffer. I have yet to figure out why parents abandon their children. I don’t understand how a husband could beat his wife and children. I don’t understand how a person could kill another just because. I may be good for us, but it must not have been good as Jesus cried out to God. I can’t imagine how good it was for God to watch His Son suffer? I would have jumped in.

As bad as it was for God the Father and Jesus, the sacrifice made was “good” for us. I’m learning to become more Christlike every day. I wish I could say I’ve made it. I know I won’t this side of Heaven. I pray you have a “Good Friday” and remember what He did for us. For those of you who haven’t experienced God’s grace and love I pray you find mercy, grace and love here. Today is good for us because Sunday is coming.

He’s no dummy…

24 02 2007

[From Newsday]

Officer Thomas Daley noticed Friday morning that the passenger wasn’t moving. The head was tilted at an odd angle, the face pressed against the side window. So he pulled over the car and, as he approached it, his suspicions were confirmed. Timothy Tietjen, 32, of Middle Island, was at the wheel, and beside him was a real dummy, seatbelt fastened.

“I was trying to hold back a chuckle, to keep a straight face,” Daley said.

“We looked at each other. Then we both looked at the mannequin. And he said, ‘I’m sorry. I’m not a bad guy, I’m just trying to get to work,’” the officer said. “He was sheepish.”

Read about it here.

[From me]

I wonder if mannequins would explain the some of the attendance and baptism numbers at some churches? :)
