School District Bans Christian Group After Bobbing for Live Goldfish

6 11 2007

[Fox News]

A Christian student group’s latest attempt to show middle school students how fun the group could be was too much for school administrators to swallow.

Last week the Campus Life group allowed students to bob for live goldfish. Two students and one Campus Life volunteer swallowed fish. No student was harmed or forced to participate, but some parents complained, and district officials weren’t pleased.

“We just felt like that type of action was distracting to the students and interfered with the learning process,” Virgil Horne, assistant to the superintendent, told the Lincoln Journal Star.

So Campus Life will be allowed to meet only at Lincoln’s Scott Middle School one more time this school year. The group’s executive director, Bryan Carlson, said he would tell students the news at Wednesday’s meeting.

PLEASE! I grew up in Campus Life–literally. Campus Life is the student ministry of Youth for Christ. My father was a Campus Life Director for over 30 years in Kansas City, Iowa, Indiana, Alabama and South Carolina. Bobbing for a goldfish is tame compared to some of the things we did when I was in Campus Life.

What does the school district want? Kids selling pot, having illicit sex, having babies out of wedlock, crime, etc…? Campus Life, Young Life, Youth Dynamics and other groups like it are making a difference in kids who don’t go to church. I have seen thousands of students lives changed by the ministry of YFC/Campus Life. This school board needs to get a clue.

Swearing at work ‘boosts team spirit, morale?’

19 10 2007

Regular swearing at work can help boost team spirit among staff, allowing them to express better their feelings as well as develop social relationships, according to a study by researchers.

Give me a break!  All swearing does is show how limited one’s vocabulary is.  I’m not being a prude but this is stupid.  I don’t feel better when I hear cussing–I feel like I need a shower.

What message does this send?

After an outbreak of pregnancies among middle school girls, education officials in this city have decided to allow allow one school’s health center to make birth control pills available to girls as young as 11.

What does this say to students? I don’t want to hear the junk that they do it anyway. This is middle school. Where are parents rights? Just keep your pants on!

Spam Rant….

26 09 2007

It is bad enough that I win every lottery in the world via e-mail on an hourly basis. Now I got three–yes count them “3″ phone calls from Turkey on my cell phone today. Every time they called it had a different number. One time it was from Missouri, then I have no idea the area code and finally no ID.

They were trying to tell me that they found my # on the internet which can’t be true because I’ve never published it. Then they told me that they were trying to get a hold of me for some money that I was due to some long lost relative. Uggh! When is this going to end?

What’s next door to door spam? O I forgot that is cornered by the Mormons and the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Study says Christianity No Longer Looks Like Jesus

26 09 2007

[Christian Post]

Young Americans today are more skeptical and resistant to Christianity than were people of the same age just a decade ago, says a new study. Negative perceptions toward the Christian faith have outweighed the positive as a growing percentage of younger Americans associate with a faith outside Christianity.

Only 16 percent of non-Christians aged 16 to 29 years old said they have a “good impression” of Christianity, according to a report released Monday by The Barna Group. A decade ago, the vast majority of Americans outside the Christian faith, including young people, felt favorably toward Christianity’s role in society. Young people have an even lesser positive impression of evangelicals. Only 3 percent of 16- to 29-year-olds who are not of the Christian faith express favorable views of evangelicals. In the previous generation, 25 percent of young people had positive associations toward evangelicals.

Among other common impressions, 23 percent of young non-Christians said “Christianity is changed from what it used to be” and “Christianity in today’s society no longer looks like Jesus.” Young born-again Christians were just as likely to say the same (22 percent).

[From me]

This really grieves me. I’m reading Bill Hybels book Holy Discontent and I believe this is my Holy Discontent that God has place on my heart. I am so concerned about the next generation. We are so busy alienating everyone that they won’t be open to listen because we have done a poor job being the hands and feet of Jesus. Too many Christians want to be “right” and become judgmental and arrogant. When did Christianity become being right over loving and ministering?

“Christianity is changed from what it used to be”

“Christianity in today’s society no longer looks like Jesus.”

Ouch!

After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel.

MTV to Air Controversial Bisexual Dating Reality Series

14 09 2007

[Christian Post]

MTV has given the green light for a new reality show starring a bisexual woman dubbed “the Madonna of MySpace.”

“A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila” is another dating competition series but with a controversial twist. The competitors vying for internet sensation Tila Tequila, a 25-year-old entertainer whose real last name is Nguyen, are 16 straight men and 16 lesbians. The 32 “suitors” will live in Tila’s house and compete to impress her as the competition narrows each week.

The bisexual dating show is a first for a network that doesn’t specifically target the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) crowd. It’s slated to premiere Oct. 9.

MTV is one of the most watched networks by teens and its staggering levels sexual imagery, foul language and violence already have parents and evangelicals concerned.

{Begin rant}

What can I say…When MTV first came out in the early 1980′s it was just about the music. It was music that my generation listened to and now could watch. When I was in a Frat in college we would sit around and watch Martha Quinn and the other VJ’s. Then they started doing TV shows like Remote Control and then it just got sleezy! Last I heard they don’t even play videos anymore. I haven’t watched MTV in at least 15 years. It is blocked at my house even from me. There is nothing, I mean nothing good that a follower of Jesus could get from any of their liberal, trashy programing. Uggh!
